Westly Wagon and Al Gore

When I got up way too early on Saturday I didn't think that those two could make a connection. Steve Westly's Westly Wagon pulled into Huntington Beach and rallied supporters in the run-up to election day. I was there and did my part to clean the beach and support Steve in his race to become the next Governor of California. When you look at the poll numbers, Steve is the only candidate that can beat Arnold in November and I don't think most Democrats know that. But in this party each Democrat can make their own mind on Tuesday, I just wonder what direction we want to head.

Now to make the connection between Steve Westly and Al Gore. Trust me, it won't be "Inconvenient" to make the leap (Get it?).

As I drove back from the Valley, I decided to stop in Hollywood and catch a showing of "An Inconvenient Truth" at the Arclight. After already pushing a twelve hour day, I grabbed my cup of coffee from the bar and prepared to sit through a college level lecture on global warming from President Al Gore. His discussion was not as academically boring as I thought, and he made some key points on the affects of global warming on our economy and our future. Gore showed slides of ice shelf that have broken off in just the last ten years. He discussed the need to raise MPG standards and why we must ratify Kyoto here in the US (Only the United States and Australia have not ratified it). California, the forward thinking state that we are, took the lead on MPG standards and now we experience more miles per gallon in our vehicles. Sales for Toyotas and Hondas have increased as they have met and exceeded gas mileage standards, while GM and Ford are experience a loss in sales due to their inability to change and evolve. Overall the movie was like watching a really long lecture, with some moments of levity thrown in to keep you awake. It's a film that needs to be seen by more people in Washington.
