This morning, while flipping through the OC Register (I could call it something else, but I have friends there) printed a correction to the voter registration story that ran in Monday's Local section.
It stated the following:
"More than 500 Orange County Democrats were reregistered as Republicans without their knowledge this spring by bounty hunters who were paid for each new voter they brought to the GOP. Because of an editing error, the way the Democrats were deceived was left out of a headline on Page 2 of the Local section in the June 26 edition of the Register."
What I find interesting about this correction is the possibility of an connection. The Register attempted to clarify that Democrats were deceived by bounty hunters. O.K., no argument there. But what arises from this correction are the following questions: Who paid the Bounty? Who hired the firm that managed their bounty program? Were they (OC GOP) knowledgeable of any past violations by the same group?
I doubt these bounty hunters were out gathering signatures under their own free will, that would defeat the term "Bounty Hunter." Maybe these people were just Political "Pirates" ala Jack Sparrow, doubt it, Jack is alot smarter. I highly doubt that the local OC Republicans had no idea what was going on with their bounty hunters because that would be reckless of them, but hey they did make a mockery of voter registration at their Flag Day Dinner.
If it walks like a Duck and talks like a Duck, then it's a Duck (with apologies to the Anaheim Ducks). The GOPpers knew what was going on, they hired the firm, they paid the bills, and now they are trying to distance themselves from what ever finding is delivered by the California Attorney General and the Secretary of State.
In this case, the correction is nothing but a connection.
